ThoughtSpace is run by owner/director Sheila Drexler, a fully qualified psychotherapist and counsellor. She has previous experience working in private practice and with counselling centres such as One in Four and The Village Counselling Service. She believes in providing a competent and supportive counselling service for the community.

Sheila uses an integrative approach to psychotherapy, in that she draws on a number of different approaches, tailored to the needs of each individual client. Two of her main approaches include Person Centred Therapy, and Reality Therapy. Counselling from a Person Centred perspective means that the therapist values their client, without judgement, in order to help increase their self-awareness and acceptance of who they are. Reality Therapy focuses on problem solving and working with the client to make better choices in order to achieve specific goals.

Sheila holds a BA Hons from UCD where she studied Sociology and Psychology. She also holds a Professional Certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the IICP, the official qualification required to practice in Ireland and the UK. She works within the IACP code of ethics and practice for counsellors and psychotherapists. Furthering personal development is important to Sheila and she regularly attends workshops in areas such as the therapeutic use of anger management, working with eating disorders, ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and mindfulness.

Practicing Mindfulness is a part of Sheila's everyday life and she would be happy to teach you to use in your own time.  It can be a useful tool for clearing your mind of stress, and living a more positive and productive life.
